Training Methods

Every dog is different, and not every training method will work for your dog. Factors such as age, temperament, and goals will play a part in the training methods/tools that are chosen.

Training methods are specially matched to your dog while they are in training, so I can be certain that I select the best training tools for your specific pup.

I follow three stages when it comes to training and matching your pup to the proper training tools:

Stage One: Food. I introduce each new command using food lures and markers to ensure they have a solid understanding of each command and the rules associated with it.

Stage Two: Leash. Each command has an associated leash mechanic, so you can communicate with your pup a variety of commands through a simple nudge of leash pressure. Each dog is different on what type of collar they learn best on, the most common are: flat collars, martingale collars, slip leads, or German made Herm Sprengar collars (made to safely and evenly distribute pressure).

Stage Three: in some cases, Mini Educator. When we are looking to achieve a higher level of obedience, higher reliability around distractions, or off-leash control, an Ecollar Technologies Mini Educator collar is a game changer! This is a medical grade TENs unit training collar, that simulates the feeling of a leash nudge, so we can still communicate with our pups - whether or not a leash is attached. Mini Educators are NOT shock collars, and should not be used as such. These training collars are used in replacement of the leash, not as a correctional tool!

When your pup completes training, I will educate you on how each tool is used, so you feel confident in using the chosen type of training.
